WDG4/WDP4 Locos Air Brake Self Test

WDG4/WDP4 Locos Air Brake Self Test Occasions to conduct: This test is to be conducted when Air Brake Failure Message displayed in the LCC or EM2000 display. When it is not possible to recover the penalty brake by placing the Auto brake handle to Full Service for 10 seconds or 60 seconds in Emergency. BC Pressure is not dropping to zero when direct brake handle is released. Before conducting Air Brake Self Test: Stop the train/loco and secure as per the instructions. Recycle the MAB and recover the penalty as per LCC Display. If unable to recover the penalty then only Air brake self-test to be done. Ensure the following to before conducting Air Brake Self Test: MR Pressure should be above 8.0 kg/cm2 and no external leakage. Front truck Brake cylinder COC is in open position. Loco is fully secured to prevent rolling of the loco during the test. (Apply hand brake and place wooden wedges). Loco is isolated from the formation.(Close all BCEQ, MREQ COCs, BP, FP COC)

Trouble Shooting When Safety Device Tripping In WDG4/WDP4

WDG4/WDP4 Locos OSTA Tripping Indications: During cranking engine will not fire. During running engine will shut down. Message in Display: No start - Mechanical OSTA Tripped, Reset before Start. Action to be Taken by LP: Reset OSTA and crank the loco. Message will go off automatically after engine gets hold. Message in Display in SIEMENS Loco No Aux. gen. output/check all breakers. Action to be Taken by LP: Press EFCO button or recycle computer breaker ad crank the loco. LLOB Tripping Indications: During cranking engine will not CRANK. During running engine will shut down. WDG4/WDP4 Locos MR1 Pressure is available and MR safety valve blowing Probable Reasons: If computer breaker is tripped. Compressor is defective during loading. MR1 J Filter COC is closed (sanders, wipers, horns, Auto drain and Radar blow down is also not achievable. Action to be taken by LP: Reset the same. Inform shed and work onwards. Keep MR1 J Filter COC in open. MR1 Pressure is low with PCS open indication Probable Reasons: Compressor is defective in unloading. (MVCC - Trouble). MR1 - Auto blow down valve blowing continuously. WDG4/WDP4 Locos MR2 Pressure is low with PCS open indication Probable Reasons: Ensure M R1 pressure. MR2 – Auto blow down valve blowing continuously. Leakage in BP Pipe. Leakage in BC Pipe. Leakage in BC Eq. Pipe. Compressor Defect. Action to be taken by LP: Trouble shoot and create. Close to shut off position (manual position – spindle inside). Check and arrest the leakage. Air Brake System Problems Indications: Crew message- Communication link failure MAB. Air brake fault-use loco in LEAD only. Air brake fault-use loco in TRAIL only. Air brake fault-BC control failure. Air brake fault-BC equalizing control failure. No blended brake - Lock out. Loco brakes not releasing. Remedial action for Communication link failure MAB: Recycle micro air brake & Computer control breakers. Check for tightness of COM card of EM2000. Check for tightness of CPZ card in CCB system. PENALTY BRAKE Effect BP and ER pressure drops to 'Zero'. TE Meter drops to zero. Message will be displayed in the Display. Emergency Penalty occasions: After self test. Auto brake emergency. WDG4/WDP4 Locos Console Changing Procedure Single Cab Preparation: Stop and secure the Loco. Throttle Handle - Idle. Reverser Handle - Neutral (Centered). Auto Brake - Run. Direct Brake - Apply (Br. WDG4D/WDP4D Locos Dual Cab Changing Procedure Preparation: Stop and secure the Loco. Apply Direct brake to Full (Br.Cyl.Pr.- 5.2 kg/cm2). Bring the Reverser Handle to Centre. Keep Isolation switch in Run Position. Preparation for Working Cab to be made as Non Working: Move Auto Brake to FS. Wait till BP Exhaust sound stops. WDG4/WDP4 Locos Dead Loco Movement Shut down the Engine as per procedure and attach with the working loco. If equalizer pipes are connected work the loco without any change. If BP pipe only connected the following procedure to be carried out. Drain MR1 and MR2 completely, then close the drain cocks. At any one end open BC Equaliser and M R Equaliser COC. Connect BP Pipe and open BP Angle cocks. Open Dead Engine cock (in CCB 1.5) or Turn Dead Engine knob in 'Dead In' position (in CCB 2.0) located in the nose compartment. Ensure M R pressure is builds to 1.8 kg/cm2 in the dead loco. Destruct the BP and ascertained loco brake is getting applied in the dead loco and BC Pressure is building up to 1.8 kg/cm2.. WDG4/WDP4 Locos Shut Down Procedure Select Starting system of computer to watch the status of TL PR. (Shows off). Press EFCO (Red) button on the Control panel till the engine stops. (TLPR shows ON). Make sure that the Turbo lube pump motor is running. Switch off all circuit breaker on the circuit breaker panel except turbo lube pump circuit breaker and computer circuit breaker.. Open battery knife switch. Remove the Reverser make entry of shutdown time and date in the log book. Wait till TLPR goes OFF. (Turbo Cooling cycle competes). Put off Turbo lube pump circuit breaker and computer circuit breaker.

WDG4/WDP4 Locos Before ShutDown Ensure: Put on the hand brake. Turn isolate / Run switch to isolate position.. On the long hood control stand: Engine Run Switch down (OFF). Control & FP breaker up (ON). Generator field switch down (OFF). On the working control stand: Keep Throttle handle in idle. Keep reverser handle in neutral and remove the handle. Auto brake handle in released position. Apply independent brake to full application position. Ensure Lead/ Trail switch is in Lead. On the non-working control stand: Auto Brake is in full service position. Independent brake is released. Lead / Trail switch is in Trail Position.

WDP4/WDG4 Locos Checks to be done before cranking: Put on the hand brake. Check oil and coolant water levels. Make sure that LLOB on Governor, Low water and crank case pressure reset buttons are pressed in. Make sure that Engine Over Speed Trip Reset Lever (OSTA) is in Reset Position (Handle should be tilted towards left side of locomotive in Reset position i.e. towards Fuel Spin On filter). Make sure that the isolate / Run switch is in 'isolate' position. On the Long hood control stand - Ensure: Engine Run switch is down (OFF). Control & FP breaker is up (ON). Generator filed switch is down (OFF). MU shut down RUN button is pressed - In. On working control stand: Ensure Reverser handle in Neutral. Throttle handle in idle. WDG4/WDP4 Locos Cranking Procedure Ensure that start Fuse is in position and close the battery knife switch (ON). In the circuit breaker panel, put ON all  Black  labelled circuit breakers.  Yellow  labelled circuit breakers (Turbo & Computer) at ON.  White labelled circuit breakers as applicable. On computer to select starting system. Select  Main Menu > Data Meter > Starting system. TL PR shows on (Turbo Cooling Cycle Starts) Now engine is ready for cranking.
